Enemy Movement

This recent update focused on the movement of enemy ships. I based the movement on the design of the ships, plus what made sense for gameplay of course.

Movement Types

This is the quick overview of movement types:

  • Zig-zag down the screen; staying on screen the whole time (sometimes quickly off screen, depending on spawn point)
  • Sideways - This one will sweep side to side. It moves faster and stays off screen slightly. I added some downward movement on it as well as moving straight sideways looked a bit off
  • Full speed ahead! This one will come on screen, fire a volley of shots, pause, then move down the screen rapidly. I actually had it go a lot faster but figure that would get unfair when the screen gets crazy

Firing Types

I also updated the firing types (rate, direction, etc) to go along with these movements

  • The zig zag fires a double shot sporadically, as it looks good from the ship, but also a volley of shots doesn't look good with the non-linear movement
  • Sideways moving ship fires a volley of shots as it sweeps across the screen
  • The full speed ahead volley of shots is actually targeted at the player. It might not end up exactly at the player due to some factors, but it is directed somewhat towards them

Feedback

Please give any feedback on the enemy movement and firing types in this thread. This includes suggestions for additional types, as we hope more artists submit ships to add!

Honestly, I don't play a lot of shootem ups, so suggestions are very helpful!
